Twenty20 (T20) is all about attacking cricket, mostly with the bat doing the honours, but very rarely we see it happening with the ball. On Tuesday it was a completely different scenario as the pitch offered a lot for the pace bowlers. Chandimal wisely opting to bowl first and India too had their brief moments with the ball. The Indians crashed out and the target of 102 was simply not enough for India to mount a serious challenge as Sri Lanka got over the line with two overs to spare and five wickets in hand in the opening T20I in Pune on February 9.

Debutant Kasun Rajitha set the tone by bagging two early wickets. It stemmed the flow of runs, but India were still on course to making a good score. Gradually however India kept losing wickets at regular intervals. It was rookie Dasun Shanaka who rocked the Indian innings when he bowled Raina and Dhoni.
