The visiting United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein met with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe this morning in Colombo. During his four day official visit, he got a chance to collect first hand information in the North and East provinces personally visiting there. He also met the politicians from the once war affected areas, in addition to the politicians in Colombo.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights also met Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan, Defence Ministry Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader and Minister Rauff Hakeem and several others. Meanwhile, a team of MPs identified as ‘the United Opposition’ handing over a letter to the UN office in Sri Lanka claimed that they were not given an opportunity to meet the High Commissioner.
