The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) informed that aside to rumours in the media, no discussions or official notification had taken place with regards to MP and former Chairman of the Party Mahinda Rajapaksa breaking away from the Party to form a separate political party cum alliance.

General Secretary of the SLFP, MP Duminda Dissanayake said that SLFP Ministers had met with President Maithripala Sirisena on February 08 to discuss internal Party matters and as to how they would proceed with the Government.

“When the Executive Committee of the SLFP last met, there were SLFP MPs who were sitting in the Opposition also in attendance and even they did not intimate such and neither have Rajapaksa and Sirisena met in this regard,” he added.
