So what exactly does one have to do to make $12 million? Write a tweet about bread, it seems! Provided you’re Oprah Winfrey, of course. The media mogul tweeted about how she was able to lose weight and still eat bread, and according to Market Watch, banked $12 million without even using all 140 characters!
The tweet Winfrey posted on January 26 included a 30-second video clip to promote Weight Watchers, and simply read: “Eat bread. Lose weight. Whaaatttt? #ComeJoinMe http://weightwtch.rs/oprah_”
“I lost 26 pounds, and I have eaten bread every single day,” Oprah said in the clip.
Just to clarify, her tweet increased the price of Weight Watchers shares to slightly over $2 a share, and given that Winfrey owns 6 million shares, the increase in value made her $12 million. That doesn’t mean she’s got $12 million in cash, though. It means if she were to sell her shares they’d be worth $12 million more, but it’s very unlikely that will happen. Oprah purchased 10% of the company shares in October, when she became the spokesperson for Weight Watchers.
