The Old Bens veterans soccer team once again proved that they are the masters of over-40 football and defended the Thilak Peiris Challenge Trophy by beating Kurunegala Veterans 3-0 in the final played at St. Benedict’s grounds last weekend. This is third occasion that Old Bens have won this trophy have emerged the victor in 2010 and 2014 before.

Both teams failed to find the net in the first half.

However, in the second half, Old Bens showed their class by sending long passes and forwards Romesh Wallace (2) and skipper Donald Fernando scored three quick goals during the final 15 minutes to seal victory.

Romesh Wallace of Old Bens was awarded the award for the most valuable player while his teammate T. Johnson was adjudged the best goal keeper.

The tournament was organized by Sri Lanka Soccer Masters Association. More than 40 clubs contested the tournament.
