The powers afforded to the Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) have been extended to include the obtaining of financial statements and bank account details pertaining to the assets of those under investigation.
Secretary to the PRECIFAC, Lacille De Silva said that such details of the family members of those being investigated by the Commission could be obtained too.
The Commission had made a request for additional powers as per certain Sections of the Act governing the PRECIFAC, he added.
The special extraordinary gazette notification issued following an order by President Maithripala Sirisena has empowered the Commission which is now vested to look into financial statements, bank accounts (including numbers) and assets (including declarations) of those under investigation by the Commission along with similar details of their family members.
Other revenue and income related details maintained by the Department of Inland Revenue too can thus be obtained.
