A writ application was filed before the Court of Appeal on February 01, over the non arrest of the former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the Embilipitiya Division and an Inspector from the Police Headquarters (HQI) over the death of a youth at a party on January 04, 2016.

Attorney-at-Law Udul Premaratne said that even though the Embilipitiya Magistrate had recently ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to arrest Police officers including former ASP of the Embilipitiya Division, D.W.C. Dharmaratne and HQI, Dinendra Dias, following evidence given in Court by the deceased, Sumith Prasanna Jayewardene’s spouse, no arrests had taken place yet.

Police Media Spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekera informed that the CID was acting on the advice of the Attorney General concerning the matter and would take appropriate measures.
