The Hirdaramani Group’s new apparel factory in Puthukudiyiruppu, Mullaitivu was ceremoniously declared open on Thursday by President Maithripala Sirisena in the presence of a distinguished gathering of guests including, ministers, international diplomats and leaders of the apparel and business community. The Hirdaramani Group’s board of directors, members of the local community as well as the group’s staff and management were also present to commemorate the occasion. The state-of-the-art apparel manufacturing facility is the Hirdaramani’s Group’s second investment in the north of Sri Lanka and plans are currently underway for the factory to be LEED certified by the end of the year.

Having commenced initial operations in March 2015, the factory has now become an important source of employment for approximately 1,000 employees. Currently employing over 500 Sewing Machine Operators (SMOs), the factory utilizes over 320 machines that deliver a monthly capacity of over 150,000 garments. The Hirdaramani Group has also taken measures to promote equal employment opportunities and the new factory currently employs more than 100 widows andthose who run women-headed households as well as a total of 26 differently-abled people.
