South Korea has pledged to set up a multi-functional fisheries complex in the North-Western Province, State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dilip Wedaarachchi said.
Wedaarachchi said that the structural planning for the complex was finalized after a series of preliminary discussions. In addition, the Minister also said that they had decided to set up the complex at the Udappuwa beach in Chilaw.
The proposed multi-functional fisheries complex will include facilities for large vessels and also accommodate a fully-fledged office complex and a cold room operational centre consisting of globally accepted novel technologies.
South Korea would assist the project by providing a soft loan, which would be settled from the income generated through the services provided by the proposed facility.
