The Tamil Nadu fishermen have launched an indefinite strike calling for the swift retrieval of their boats confiscatd by Sri Lanka.

According to Indian media reports, the fishermen have launched the strike in Nagappattinam today and Pudukottai. In addition, they would also go on hunger strike tomorrow reiterating the same demands.

The Sri Lankan Government had released all Indian fishermen taken into custody for encroaching into Sri Lankan waters, but did not release the boats.

Reports said that since March 2015, around 75 fishing boats have been confiscated of which about 25 belong to Nagapattinam hamlets.
