The Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochchcolai would add its total capacity of 900 MW to the national grid this week, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has said.

Accordingly, the Minister had made this comment during an inspection tour of the facility. He told reporters that the plant had produced up to 33 percent of the national grid capacity last week and it is expected to produce 5,300 million watts during 2016.

The third and the final phase of the plant was completed recently and the Minister stated that the full capacity of 900 MW would be utilized under the Ministry’s National Electrification Programme to provide 100 percent electrification.
