With colourfully painted nails and nail arts being the trend, we are all for giving the nails that brush of glamour. It is important that you do this the right way and care for your nails properly. Or in the long run, all you would get is damaged, discoloured nails that break off.
With colorfully painted nails and nail arts being the trend, we are all for giving the nails that brush of glamour. It is important that you do this the right way and care for your nails properly. Or in the long run, all you would get is damaged, discolored nails that break off.
The first step is to cut your nails when it’s getting too long. What is too long would depend on your individual preference; otherwise, they could tear or break.
Cut your finger nails straight across and then round the tips. Cut your toe nails in a straight line, rather than in a curve. A good way is to trim your nails while they are soft, after washing them. The more often you trim your nails, the stronger your nails would be. After cutting your nails, file them. However, you should take care to file your nails in one direction only. If you file both ways, all you would do is break tiny pieces off your nails. You should never cut your cuticles when doing a manicure as this can lead to nail infection.
It is a good idea not to polish your nails more than once a month, as applying nail polish makes your nails get thinner and weaker. It is also a good idea to avoid nail polish and removers which contain acetone, as it is quite harmful to your nails. Also don’t hesitate to throw away nail polish that has expired. Be careful when using acrylic or gel nails. It tends to damage your nail long term and it would be quite painful if you pull an acrylic nail and your natural nail gets pulled along with it.
Also, it is important that you use a clean brush to clean under your nails every day. First, wash your hands using lukewarm water and then use soap. Then, clean under your nails and wash off the soap and dry off with a clean towel. Apply a moisturizer and massage. Make sure to rub moisturizer on to your fingernails and cuticles as well. When you are doing household work, wear cotton lined rubber gloves. This would prevent detergents, and other chemicals you use for cleaning, from damaging your nails. However, make sure your hands are dry before wearing rubber gloves, as wet environment promote fungal growth. Another good habit is to avoid biting your nails. You would reduce the risk of appendicitis in addition to having beautiful nails.
If you have stains on your nails, one way to remove them is to use lime juice. Mix about one tablespoon of freshly-squeezed lime with lukewarm water. Dip your nails in this solution for about two minutes. Then, rinse off with warm water and moisturize. If you have weak nails, one solution is to use mustard oil.
Dip your nails in lukewarm mustard oil for 10 minutes. Make sure it is lukewarm; you don’t want to burn your fingers or toes. Then, remove your nails from the oil and gently massage each nail in circular motion to boost blood circulation. Pay attention to your cuticles. Do this daily to strengthen your nails. Alternatively, you could dip your nails in extra virgin olive oil every other day, for 15 minutes. Make sure this is also lukewarm. Make it a practice to care for your nails regularly, for beautiful healthy nails.
