The Principal of Ranwala Mahanaga Maha Vidyalaya in Kegalle and a Buddhist monk engaged in clerical work at the same school were arrested this morning by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
According to the Bribery Commission, the two suspects were taken into custody on charges of soliciting a bribe of Rs.60,000. The bribe had been demanded by them to admit a student to the school’s Grade 6 class.
After conducting investigations based on a complaint that was lodged, sleuths from the Bribery Commission arrested the two suspects at the school premises this morning as they were accepting the bribe.
Further investigations are underway and the suspects are due to be produced before the Kegalle Magistrate.
