The Principal, Vice-Principal and an office assistant of Sevamuktha Kandaura Maha Vidyalaya in Polonnaruwa have all been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

Director (Operations) of the Bribery Commission, SSP Priyantha Chandrasiri said the three were arrested at the school premises this morning by officials from the commission on bribery charges.

According to SSP Chandrasiri, the school’s principal had demanded a bribe of Rs.7500 to admit a child to the school. Acting on a complaint made to the commission, officials arrested the school’s Vice-Principal and office assistant as they were about to accept the bribe on behalf of the principal at the school premises. The principal was also arrested on bribery  charges.

Further investigations are underway and the suspects are due to be produced before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court.
