Avant Garde Maritime Services Ltd (AGMS) has decided to take legal action against Sri Lanka Navy as it had failed to respond to the letter of demand sent last month over losses incurred after the latter had taken over the controversial Galle floating armoury.

An official attached to AGMS told the Nation that the letter of demand was sent to the navy mid last month seeking Rs. 2 billion as damages. The letter of demand also claimed that the navy had unlawfully taken over the floating armoury on November 13, 2015, which had resulted in heavy losses to Avante Garde.

The official said that the decision to take legal action was taken since the Navy had failed to respond to the letter of demand during the stipulated time period.

According to the AGMS, the floating armoury had been taken over in violation of the agreements between Avant Garde and Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Ltd.
