The Supreme Court has refused to grant leave to proceed with the Fundamental Rights petition filed by former Supreme Court Judge Sarath De Abrew claiming that the charge sheet filed against him by the Attorney General was illegal.

The Supreme Court rejected the De Abrew’s petition citing that there were criminal proceedings against him in the High Court of Colombo and the Magistrate Court Mount Lavinia.

The Attorney General filed a charge sheet against De Abrew based on a complaint lodged by a domestic worker who alleged that she was assaulted in June last year.
