Lahiru Kumara and Lahiru Samarakoon have made Kandy proud. They have gained places in the Sri Lanka under 19 squad for the 2016 under 19 World Cup. Lahiru Kumara commenced his cricketing career at Sri Sumangala College Kandy under the watchful eyes of Rangith Colombage. It was he who groomed this young cricketer to play cricket at his best and made him a strike bowler.
Samarakoon first played for Nugawela Central under the coaching of Ahamed Muzny, where his skills were polished. From there he crossed over to Dharmaraja College.
Lahiru Kumara got a break when he was picked to play for the Sri Lanka under 15 team which toured Malaysia. After viewing his performance, the then coach of Trinity College, Sampth Perera, approached Rangith Colombage and later the players parents. This is how he got entrance to Trinity College.
Kumara should be thankful to Colombage and Sri Sumangala College for grooming him. Samarakoon started his cricket at Nugawela Central College under the guidance of Ahmed Muzney. This coach put this boy in the correct path to play good cricket. Samarakoon is now training under Senaka Dissanayake at Dharmaraja College.
