The eight suspects in remand custody in connection with the case where a youth in Dematagoda was allegedly abducted using a Defender vehicle belonging to MP Hirunika Premachandra were all identified at an identification parade held at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today.

After being identified, the suspects were ordered released by the Colombo Additional Magistrate on personal bails of Rs.100,000 each.

On December 22, six suspects were taken into custody by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) along with a Defender vehicle belonging to Colombo District United National Party (UNP) MP Hirunika Premachandra that they had allegedly used to abduct the youth. Two others were arrested later.

The victim has claimed that he was held at an office in Kolonnawa belonging to Hirunika Premachandra where he was beaten by the suspects, who are all said to be her supporters. He has further alleged that Premachandra had threatened him.

Police have recorded a statement from Premachandra regarding the allegations. However, police have said they were not seeking any additional suspects over the case at present.
