A suspect who allegedly attacked an individual and robbed cash an a winning lottery ticket valued at Rs.500,000 belonging to the victim, has been taken into custody.

Police Media Unit said the  suspect had allegedly assaulted the victim near the Anuradhapura Market on January 2 and escaped with Rs.350 in cash and the winning lottery ticket.

Acting on a complaint lodged with the Anuradhapura Police, officers were able to arrest a 23-year-old man in connection with the incident last afternoon.

The suspect is a resident of Jayanthi Mawatha, Anuradhapura. Police were also able to recover the stolen cash and lottery ticket from the suspect’s possession.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court today.
