Did you always dream of having a thick mass of glossy, voluminous, healthy hair? Today, we will tell you how to make your dream come true, the natural, healthy way. For centuries, henna has served as a solution for all kinds of hair troubles. It is blessed with properties that prevent premature graying, hair loss and dandruff. This cooling herb is also known for restoring the acid-alkaline balance of your scalp.

By appling a henna pack every two months, you could get healthy, shiny hair. However, some people experience dry hair after applying henna. Therefore, it’s always advisable to do a strand test before applying. Also, if you have sensitive skin, do a patch test by applying a small amount of henna on your skin, before applying on your head.

Preparation
Buy pure, natural henna. It should be green to brown in colour. You would need about 50 grams for short hair, 100 grams for medium length hair, and about 200 grams for long hair. Pour henna into a bowl, add water little by little and stir well, until a thick paste is formed. Add a few drops of lime to help the mixture oxidize. Cover it with a plastic wrap and leave it overnight. When it’s ready, it would turn into a dark brown colour. This indicates that the mixture has oxidized.

Prevent premature graying
Add henna to hot black coffee, instead of mixing with water. Stir well to obtain a yoghurt like thickness.

Cover grey hair
Boil one dried Indian gooseberry (Nelli), one teaspoon of black tea and two cloves. Strain to remove the residue. Instead of mixing henna with water, add henna to this and leave over night.

Reduce hair loss
Add green tea to henna powder and stir well. Leave it overnight and then mix with two tablespoons of lemon juice and two table spoons of beaten yoghurt.

How to apply
It is advised not to shampoo your hair before you apply henna. Massage your hair with coconut oil, about an hour before applying henna. This would moisturize your hair, and prevent it from drying after the henna treatment. Wear gloves while coating your hair with the mixture. Spread it evenly, paying attention to the ends and the roots. Be careful not to get the mixture on your skin. If you do, wash it off immediately as you might end up colouring your skin as well. After coating your hair, pile it up, on top of your head and wrap it up with a towel. This should be a towel you don’t mind getting stains on. You can wash your hair after a few hours, or leave it overnight for best results. When washing, carefully remove the towel from your hair and rinse your hair thoroughly. Avoid shampoo for a day.

In addition, henna conditions your hair to give it volume, strengthens hair roots, reduces the frizziness in your hair, and adds a brownish tinge.
