Police today obtained a court order requiring television channels to submit visuals of a media briefing convened by Colombo District MP Hirunika Premachandra over the alleged abduction of a youth using a Defender vehicle registered to her.

Issuing a media release, Police Headquarters said the court order was obtained based on advise given by the Attorney General’s Department.

Acting on advise from the AG’s Department, the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), which is investigating the case, has also recorded statements from two persons over the case. Accordingly, statements have been recorded from the husband of the woman who is at the center of the incident. The husband is currently in remand custody. A statement had also been recorded from this suspect’s 11-year-old daughter, who was also present at the scene of the alleged abduction.

Eight suspects are currently in remand custody after being arrested in connection with the abduction of a youth from a shop in Dematagoda on December 21. They are due to be presented for an identification parade on January 4.
