The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) employees who were on a trade union action from last Saturday, December 26, called off their strike after winning their demand of getting the annual bonus as it is.

NWSDB employees threatened to cut down the countrywide water supply if the government failed to address their grievances. They staged a token strike yesterday, demanding full bonus payment or any other acceptable solution.

The unionists demand that the authorities should offer a solution by today (29) noon, had commenced an islandwide strike action in the morning session. Most of them also did not report to yesterday’s night shifts.

Convener of the Water Supply Trade Union Joint Alliance, Engineer Upali Ratnayake, said that a discussion had with the authorities assured them full bonus of Rs 37,500 and all the employees will report to work as usual as they won the trade union action.
