The talk of the town is when will the Annual General Meeting of Kandy District Cricket Association (KDCA) take place? The last AGM was held in February 2013. Cricket lovers opine that it is high time to call for a meeting and promote domestic cricket for clubs. KDCA Secretary says that a former Sports Minister had brought in a ruling which states that there is no need to have AGMs every year. It is high time to conduct the AGM before the AGM of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
At present there are no domestic tournaments for clubs in Kandy. The game is not promoted in a proper manner. It seems that KDCA wakes up only when there is an international cricket match at Pallekelle Stadium. One of the senior committee members of the KDCA alleged that one of the former sports ministers provided cricket gear, but only a few clubs received them and the rest went missing.
With the SLC AGM just days away, those supporting the popular two factions vying for the top post have been promised a stake at the Pallekelle Stadium, if either team wins.
