Laws governing the Employees Trust Fund (ETF) are to be amended shortly to enable employees to withdraw their dues after attaining the age of 55 at regular intervals as ‘contract employees’ after retirement, Labour Ministry sources disclosed to Nation.
Labour Minister W.D.J.Seneviratne told Nation that the present regulations only provided withdrawal of ETF dues once in five years and those after retirement had to wait for that period to claim their dues.
Minister Seneviratne said it was unreasonable to hold onto dues of contract employees after retirement age and they should be given the option to claim those once they complete those employment contracts.
He said that he hoped to move necessary amendments to the ETF Act when Parliament meets in January next year. (PG)
