Six suspects who were arrested in connection with an alleged abduction of a youth in Dematagoda have been remanded in custody till January 4 by the Colombo Additional Magistrate.
The suspects were taken into custody by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) last evening along with a Defender vehicle belonging to Colombo District United National Party (UNP) MP Hirunika Premachandra that they had allegedly used to abduct the youth.
Police had also recorded a statement from Premachandra last evening regarding the alleged abduction.
The victim has claimed that he was held at an office in Kolonnawa belonging to Hirunika Premachandra where he was beaten by the suspects, who are all said to be her supporters. He has further alleged that Premachandra had threatened him.
When contacted, Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the suspects would be produced for an identification parade on January 4.
However, he said police are unable to comment on whether additional suspects were being sought on the incident.
The CCD is conducting investigations into the incident.
