The confrontation between Army Sports Club and Havelock Sports Club in the Dialog ‘A’ Division Inter-club League Rugby Tournament first round at Air Force grounds in Ratmalana on 20 December should turn out to be a thriller. Kick off is at 4 pm.
The forte of both teams has been their power-packed forwards. The Havies ‘eight’ especially Prasad Madusanka, Muthutanthri, Dushmantha Priyadarshana, Ganuka Dissanayaka and Jason Melder have given a terrific display in the loose, but in this game they will be given a torrid time by the Army forwards spearheaded by burly Ashoka Jayalal ably supported by Nishantha Kobbekaduwa, Manoj Silva, Nalaka Maduranga and Upul Abeynayaka.
Army, who suffered an unexpected defeat at the hands of CR&FC in their first game, returned to form against Navy and Air Force where they registered thumping victories. However, they lost their game against Kandy 44-8 last week in Nittewela. Army has been training hard during the past few days and are determined to pull off a morale-boosting win while the unbeaten Havies who registered victories against Police , CR , Navy and Air Force, whom they beat 26-13, will have to be at their very best if they have to topple the high riding Army. Going by the two team’s performance so far a close tussle for supremacy can be expected at Ratmalana.
