Candidates for executive committee posts at Sri Lanka Cricket’s AGM to be held on January 3, Nishantha Ranatunga and Sajeewa Gadaliyadda are alleged to have exchanged blows at the Sports Ministry premises in Colombo on Friday morning.
Sports Ministry Director General K.D.S. Ruwanchandra confirmed receiving information of Ranatunga and Godaliyadda being involved in a brawl, but said he was not a witness to the incident.
Ruwanchandra said that he had called up a meeting with representatives of some clubs and associations from Negombo to check the legitimacy of some of the names of certain candidates forwarded by these institutes as their representatives to contest the upcoming SLC elections. He said that Ranatunga and Godaliyadda were not invited for this meeting, but had been present in the Sports Ministry premises.
Informed sources told Nation that an entry had been lodged in the Cinnamon Garden Police by one of the parties who had been involved in the fisticuff.
