The sport of body building in Sri Lanka received a blow on Sunday (December 13) when some of the competitors contesting the Mr. Sri Lanka Body Building Championships, held in Colombo, caused a stir by refusing to cooperate with a drug testing process. Some of the contestants are reported to have threatened the doctor who had been present at the scene to conduct the drug tests.

The issue was even raised in parliament and Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara responding to this issue warned that anyone refusing to cooperate with doping tests would be punished severely. Sri Lanka Body Building & Fitness Federation President Kithsiri Fernando told Nation that there was an inquiry in process against the winner of the championship Chaminda Peiris while the runner-up Sisira Kumara had been slapped with a life-ban.
