A sudden strike action initiated by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning resulted in several departing flights being delayed.

Most of the delayed flights belonged to national carrier SriLankan Airlines.

Four SriLankan Airlines outbound flights were delayed due to the trade union action. Accordingly, flights to Beijing, London, Singapore and Lahore were delayed by the strike.

However, the strike has now been called off.

Customs officials had reportedly launched the strike in protest against the strict security checks imposed on them by airport security personnel when entering the airport.
