An accused who was on trial for importation, possession and trafficking of heroin has been sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court.
Police Media Unit said the individual, a resident of Dehiwala and two Pakistani nationals had been arrested on November 11, 2012 by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Bureau over importation, possession and trafficking of 2 kilograms of heroin. They were placed in remand custody after being produced before court and were subsequently indicted at the Colombo High Court.
The Pakistani nationals pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to death on December 17, 2014. However, as the Sri Lankan national pleaded not guilty, the case against him was taken up again and he was sentenced to death on December 9 after being found guilty of the charges.
