Record 27-12 win in Under 20 rugger tournament

Sri Lanka’s under 20 rugby rugby players produced a brilliant second half rally against host nation Singapore in their first outing of the Junior Rugby Asiad to record a 27 points ( 4 Tries, 2 Conversions, 1 Penalty) to 12 ( 2 Tries, 1 Conversion) win at Singapore Stadium on December 13 (Sunday). The Winners led 10-05 at half time.

The match got off in muddy conditions. Sri Lanka drew first blood when Kevin Dixon touched down after covering nearly 40 meters. Reeza Rafaideen put over the conversion. Sri Lanka went into a 7nil lead.

Singapore reduced the lead to 7-5 with an unconverted try.

Sri Lanka then took the lead 10-5 through a Reeza Rafaideen penalty and this score stood at lemons.

Soon after the break, Sri Lanka went further ahead to lead 15-5 through a sensational try which came off a 60 metre dash through winger Reeza Rafaideen. The try was unconverted.

Singapore scored a converted try to make the score 15-12.

Sri Lanka full back Buddhima Piyarathna scored a breathtaking try which went unconverted. Sri Lanka increased the led and made the score read 20 -12.

Tuskers sealed the match in their favour when their second row forward Mithila Perera scampered through for a try which was converted by Rafaideen. This try made Sri Lanka run away with a 27 points to 12  win in the end.
