The island-wide strike launched by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) at 8.00am today has left most services at government hospitals paralyzed. The strike has been launched over several key demands including the decision made by the government to scrap the duty-free vehicle permits issued for government servants, and a demand for an increase in basic salaries of government servants. A total of 17 professional trade unions, including the Sri Lanka Administrative Services Association have extended support to the GMOA’s trade union action. These was the scene this morning at the Colombo National Hospital after the strike was launched.
