The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the long impending Right To Information (RTI) bill, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament today.

Accordingly, the bill was approved by the cabinet when they had met last evening. Wickremesinghe stated that the bill would now be discussed at provincial level before being presented to Parliament to be approved and made law.

The RTI was one of the key pledges mentioned in the 100 day program of President Maithripala Sirisena during his Presidential poll campaign.

It is expected that the bill would be presented to Parliament early next year taking into account the ongoing budget debate.
