Kandy Sports Club kept their reputation intact when they scored a run- away victory against the Air Force Sports Club outfit by 63 ( 9 tries, 6 conversions , 2 penalties) to 12 ( 4 penalties) victory in their Dialog ‘A’ Division Inter-club League Rugby match played November 29 at Nittawela Stadium in Kandy. The winners led 32-6 at the breather.
Kandy SC may have won by a large margin, but their coach hinted that there was a lot of work to be done in terms of working towards perfection. Speaking to The Nation head coach Sean Wijesinghe said, “We have yet to come to our best and I feel we have a lot more room to improve” said Wijesinghe.
The winners found their act together from the very first minute by scoring 9 superb tries, where the Air Force side who played the match with a never-say-die attitude gave off their best in defense by tackling well to stop the formidable Kandy side. But the experienced lads from Kandy ran away with the game in the end.
For Kandy Heshan Kalhara (2), Soyuru Anthony (2), Richard Darmapala(1), Piyumal Manchanayaka (1), Danusha Dayan (1), Damith Dissanayaka (1) and Gayan Rathnayaka (1) scored the tries. While Full back Thilina Wijesinghe and fly half Arshad Jamaldeen converted six tries among each other.
Full back Nuwan Perera fired across four penalties for Air Force.
