Army SC say they are fit and ready win

CR&FC will battle it out with the unknown Army Sports Club in their maiden match in the 2015/16 Dialog Inter-club Dialog League Rugby Tournament match at Longden Place on Saturday (November 21). The kick off is scheduled for 4:00pm.

CR are a dejected lot with several of their key players, including fly half Tharinda Ratwatte (sitting for exams), national centre Kanchana Ramanayaka, winger Anuradha Herath, flanker Sasanka Ariyarathna and hooker Malith Hettiarachchi (all are down with injuries),  not being available for the game against the soldiers.

These players will be replaced by fly half Nalin Kumara (younger brother of Saliya Kumara), ex Ranjan skipper centre Rochana Hettiarachchi, ex Kingswood and Upcountry lions winger Kavindu Perera and ex-Royal player and master of the rolling maul hooker Supun Warnakulasuriya for today’s game.

Also ex-Science College skipper cum full back Prince Chamara will play in the pivotal position of full back for CR today.

Going by the team cards CR are having a huge advantage over the inexperienced young Army side. But they are going into this game as the underdogs which leaves Army with a chance if they play a different brand of rugby and force the hosts to make errors.

Last season CR won the away fixture against Army, but unexpectedly lost to them at Longden Place.

Speaking to, CR&FC team manager Dunstan de Silva said, “We were practicing together for the past 3 to 4 months and just returned after a practice session in Diyathalawa. Unfortunately key players are hit by injuries, but we will go for a bonus point win today for sure” said De Silva.

Army SC team manager Nisal Meepage when contacted said, “Since all the players are serving in Army regiments their physical and strength conditioning are very good therefore fitness wise we are very strong. Practice session conducted before the match went on very well, so hopefully taking these things into consideration we are going for a win” said Meepage.
