The National Fisheries week will commence tomorrow (November 21) announced Minister for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Mahinda Amaraweera releasing a statement in honor of the World Fisheries Day. According to Minister Amaraweera the week held under the theme of “Forward for responsible fishing industry” will continue till November 27.

“The week has been organized in order to bring focus to the fisheries industry of the island” he said adding that the industry plays an important role in the national economy.

According to the Minister along with the fisheries day falling on November 21 the Ministry of Fisheries will continue its contributions to the economy while also conserving the fisheries industry. “This will prohibit using illegal fishing methods while also getting more opportunities to export fisheries products” Amaraweera said.
