The first budget of the ‘Good Governance’ government will be presented in Parliament today. The Cabinet of Ministers met this morning to approve the budget for 2016 and Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake will present it as the Minister of Finance.

The Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill for Budget 2016 will take place when the Parliament convenes at 2:00pm. The 2016 Appropriation bill was first tabled in Parliament on October 23.

The Second Reading debate of budget proposals will take place from November 21 onwards for nine days and a vote will be taken on December 02 at 5:00pm.

The Committee Stage debate will continue for 15 days from December 03 and the final vote at the Third Reading will be taken on December 19.
