Six children belonging to three different families living without any adult supervision in a house located in the Elwala, Matale area were discovered by the officers of the Ukwela Child Protection Authority.

The officers visiting the house following a tip off found two boys and four girls. Their ages ranged from 4-11. According to the Police the children had been living alone due to various reasons such as abandonment, imprisonment and parents being employed overseas.

The children have been handed over to the Matale Male and Female orphanages after being presented to the Matale magistrate’s court yesterday. Matale Children and Women’s bureau are currently carrying out further investigations into the incident.
