RCGC’s North-East Monsoon Meet

The much awaited tournament in the golfing calendar the North-East Monsoon Meet that will be played over four days at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) in Colombo.

The first two days of the tournament are scheduled for November 14 and 15. The other two days in the tournament have been fixed for November 21 and 22.

This is a tournament for members of RCGC. As many as130 golfer are expected to participate.

This year’s North East Monsoon Meet will comprise of the following competitions.

1). CLIFFORD CUP: (Strokeplay, two round nett )

The Clifford Cup was instituted in 1913 to honor Sir Hugh Clifford, Governor of Ceylon who was a keen golfer.

The winner will be the player returning the best nett aggregate score in the first and third rounds.

2). R.C.G.C. CENTENARY TROPHY: (Strokeplay, four round nett )

This Trophy was instituted in 1979 by the Royal Colombo Golf Club to Commemorate the Centenary Year.

The winner will be the player returning the best nett aggregate score over four rounds.

3). ANNUAL GOLD MEDAL: (Strokeplay, one round gross)

In 1886, it was resolved that the annual tournament will be held during the first week of October. The Club would offer a Gold Medal for Open Competition. There are no records of a winner, but the “Times of October 1887” refers to F.A. Fairlie winning the Gold Medal with a score of 99.

The winner will be the player returning the best gross score in the first round.

4). MACKINLAY QUAISH: (Strokeplay, one round nett) (Not a Board event)

The winner will be the player returning the best nett score in the fourth round.

Winner: Nilkamal Perera 79+65= 144 Nett

Runner-Up: Gihan Siribaddana 76+68= 144 Nett

Annual Gold Medal

Winner: Rusi Captain 71 Gross

Runner-Up: Amrith De Soysa 71 Gross

R.C.G.C. Centenary Trophy

Winner: Husni Uwise 74+65+75+77=291 Nett

Runner Up: Ishira Fernando 76+69+73+77=295 Nett

Mackinlay Quaish

Winner: Romesh Abhayaratne 69 Nett

Runner-Up: Shafraz Zuhar 70 Nett. (TBR)
