All 31 ex-LTTE combatants who were granted bail yesterday but failed to go home will be released today only after their relatives or friends appeared to sign bonds for them, the Prison officials announced.
Thirty-one suspects detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) over alleged links with the LTTE were released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate this morning. However, that procedure was also delayed as the Attorney General’s Department had taken some time to approve their release. The court, during that time had further remanded the group till November 24.
Later, the suspects were released on bail after the Attorney General’s Department approved them being granted bail. However, no one was there to sign bonds on behalf them and they had to walk back to the Black Maria which was driven to the Prison back.
