President’s Media Unit (PMU) said that President Maithripala Sirisena has directed all relevant officials to revoke all agreements between Rakna Araksha Lanka Limited and Avant Garde Maritime Services.  The PMU also revealed that he also wants the offenders be prosecuted based on the original report of the Attorney General’s investigation into the company’s dealings.

A special meeting took place at the Presidential Secretariat chaired by President and participated by Prime Minister and other Cabinet Ministers. Avant Garde had been already been ordered to hand over all its weapons to the Sri Lanka Navy. Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police has also been instructed to pursue legal action based on the Attorney General’s original findings on the company’s operations.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Rajitha Senarathne said that some illegal weapons were recovered from Avant Garde’s possession recently and the original investigation by the Attorney General Department had recommended that criminal action be instituted against top officials of Avant Garde and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Minister Senarathne also added that however, those recommendations had not been implemented so far and they suspect that it happened due to an order given by a “high ranking minister.”
