A six-year-old girl traveling in a three-wheeler driven by her father, was killed when she was thrown out of the vehicle and crushed under it after it suddenly turned in the opposite direction in Moratuwa last evening.
Police Media Unit said that the driver of the three-wheeler, traveling towards Colombo on the old Galle Road, had suddenly turned in the opposite direction without slowing down. This prompted the child who was inside the vehicle to be thrown out. The driver had been unable to control the vehicle and it had thereafter overturned, crushing the victim underneath.
The child, a resident of Moratuwa, was admitted to the Lunawa Hospital before being admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
A post-mortem examination is due to be conducted today. The victim’s father, who had driven the trishaw, is currently under arrest. Moratuwa Police are investigating.
