One person has been reported missing after a three-wheeler was swept away during heavy rains in Bandarawela last night.

Police said the incident had occurred at Hapathgamuwa in Bandarawela. Heavy rains experienced in the area had resulted in the Hapathgamuwa culvert overflowing. This had resulted in the road being completely flooded. The three-wheeler, which was carrying two persons, including the driver, had been attempting to make its way along the road when the force of the water had swept it downstream.

The three-wheeler’s passenger had managed to save himself. However, the driver is listed as missing. He has been identified as a 40-year-old resident of Bandarawela. A joint search operation is currently being conducted by the Bandarawela Police and Sri Lanka Army to locate the missing individual.
