The heroic actions of a pregnant Woman Police Constable (WPC) has saved the life of a 6-year-old boy who was about to be thrown onto the path of an oncoming train in Kandy this morning.

Police Headquarters stated that the WPC had been on her way to the Kandy Police Station where she works when at around 7.15am, she had seen a woman allegedly assaulting the child and attempting to throw him onto the path of a train coming from Matale to Kandy near the Kandy Railway Station.

The constable had acted immediately and saved the child from being thrown onto the tracks. During the struggle, the female suspect had managed to escape. However, she was later arrested.

It has been revealed that the child was the youngest child of the female suspect and that she had tried to commit the crime on the grounds that the suspect’s husband was neglecting the child. Both the female suspect and her husband had worked as laborers in Kandy.

The suspect and her child are due to be produced before the Kandy Magistrate. Kandy Police are investigating.
