Two persons have been killed in separate wild elephant attacks during a period of 12 hours.

The first incident had occurred at around 7.30pm yesterday near the Lingapuram Kovil in Serunuwara. A 47-year-old area resident succumbed to his injuries in hospital after being attacked by a wild elephant. Police said the victim had been making his way to a nearby shop to purchase goods when he had been attacked.

In the second incident, which occurred at around 7.30 this morning in Egodathenna, Balangoda. In this incident, two persons had been attacked by wild elephants resulting in them sustaining serious injuries. They were admitted to the Balangoda Hospital where a 70-year-old individual succumbed to his injuries. The injured 38-year-old individual, identified as the victim’s son, is still receiving treatment.
