The National Police Commission (NPC) has appointed a three-member committee to probe the actions of the police during the October 29 protest by Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA) students.

The NPC had also summoned acting IGP Pujith Jayasundara and DIG Western Province Gamini Mathurata today to record their statements with regard to the incident.

Several students were injured when police baton charged a group of student protesters in front of the UGC. Police also used water cannon and tear gas to break up the protest. The students were from Inter Student Collective for the Protection of Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA). The had organized a protest march to the UGC building when they were stopped by police near Town Hall.
