Formidable Western Province Combined XV thrashed the hapless Central Province Combined XV by 58 points (4 goals, 6 tries) to 8 (1 try, 1 penalty) in their annual rugby match played yesterday for the SAGT trophy at Havelock Park.

The winners led 26 points to 3 at lemons.

For the winners prop Nikila Gunadeera and centre Nishon Perera scored two tries each, while hooker Supun Warnakulasooriya, winger Bhanuka Gamage, second row Umesh Madushan, wingers Sajith Roshan and Asitha Punchihewa and fly half Buddima Piyarathna scored one try apiece.

Four tries were converted among Kevin Dixon, Isuru Kongahawatte and Buddima Piyarathna.

Winger Reez Rafaideen scored an unconverted try and put over a penalty for the losing team.

Sanath Martis functioned as the head coach of Western Province XV and Nihal ‘Viper’ Gunaratna as head coach of Central Province XV.
