National Freedom Front (NFF) leader MP Wimal Weerawansa had been detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) early this morning.
Former Minister had been stopped by the officials on the ground that his passport was a suspended one. He had informed the CID officials that he lost his passport and obtained a new one after making a complaint with police. However, this morning, he had come to the airport with his old passport.
Former Minister who was handed over to the CID had been later questioned. Meanwhile, MP Dinesh Gunawardene has raised the issue in Parliament as a violation of Parliamentary privileges and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has assured the House to attend the issue soon. NFF Media Spokesman Mohammed Muzammil who was on the way to the scene said “No big issue and he will be released soon as the Prime Minister has given instructions to the officials.”
