Sri Lanka regained control of the second Test against the West Indies when they dismissed their opponents for 163 and by the close of the second day had stretched their overall lead to 113 runs scoring 76-2 in their second innings at the P Sara Oval.

At the wickets were Kaushal Silva on 31 not out and Dinesh Chandimal on five.

Sri Lanka lost Dimuth Karunaratne to the first ball of the innings when the opener glanced Jerome Taylor uppishly for Devendra Bishoo to pull off a spectacular catch at square leg.

Silva and debutant Kusal Mendis added 55 for the second wicket before Mendis fell to Jomel Warrican for a well compiled 39.

West Indies bowlers who did a splendid job to bowl out Sri Lanka for 200, could not continue the good work with the bat as none of their batsmen could establish a big partnership  – the highest being 39.

Kraigg Brathwaite spent 164 minutes at the wicket to top score with 47 but apart from him no other West Indian was able to combat the pace cum spin combination that Sri Lanka threw at them.

It was a rather below par performance by the islanders on a pitch that was affording bounce and spin.

Dhammika Prasad bowled his heart out to take four wickets. He has become the main strike bowler for Sri Lanka in the past few series and has obliged his skipper with a wicket whenever he was brought on to bowl.

Milinda Siriwardana also chipped in with the important wickets of Brathwaite and Marlon Samuels.

Off-spinner Dilruwan Perera who replaced Tharindu Kaushal also came to the party late to clean off the tail taking three for 20 in a spell of 6.2 overs.

Sri Lanka lead the two-match series played for the Sobers-Tissera trophy 1-0.
