West Indies produced a disciplined bowling performance to dismiss Sri Lanka for 200 on the opening day of the second Test played at the P Sara Oval.

By stumps brought forward by bad light West Indies had replied with 17 for the loss of Shai Hope’s wicket for four.

Hope was trapped lbw by Dhammika Prasad

After Sri Lanka had decided to bat first on winning the toss on a pitch that afforded bounce and movement for the quick bowlers West Indies came up with a fine bowling effort from their unit go dismantle the Lankan batting.

Jerome Taylor set the tone for the day by dismissing Kaushal Silva for a first ball duck having him caught behind by Denesh Ramdin.

The rest of the bowlers followed suit to reduce Sri Lanka to 59-4 by lunch and it was only a plucky maiden Test half-century from Milinda Siriwardana that saw Sri Lanka to their final total.

Top of the bowling list was not the quicks but debutant Jomel Warrican who with his left-arm spin captured four wickets for 67.

The pitch still had a lot of life on it when West Indies batted and they will face a testing time tomorrow against the likes of Dhammika Prasad and Rangana Herath.

The passage of play throughout the day was very slow with West Indies far behind on their over rate.

The long times spent on reviewing decisions put to the third umpire also took its toll on the day. The absence of hot spot and snickometer meant endless replays which delayed the day’s proceedings.
